Explanatory note
Obtaining secondary vocational education by students is a necessary condition for training qualified workers.
Due to the specifics of professional educational organizations related to the acquisition of a certain profession by students, English language teaching should be conducted taking into account professional orientation. This will allow for interdisciplinary connections between the English language and professional disciplines, increasing students’ interest in learning English and their activity in the classroom.
The implementation of interdisciplinary connections contributes to a deeper and more durable assimilation of the material being studied. Such material proposes to specifically train students in terminology in English related to their future profession, based on knowledge acquired in classes in special subjects and in the process of industrial training in the training workshops of the technical school.
Students study using textbooks, the disadvantage of which is the lack of technical texts. To bring the educational process closer to the requirements of vocational education, the teacher has to turn to various sources, select special texts, adapt some of them, compose others yourself, using characteristics, instructions for engines, etc.
Didactic material was selected with the aim of expanding the stock of professional vocabulary and developing students' speech skills in oral speech in English. The material contains an English-Russian dictionary of technical terms, Russian-English dictionary technical terms, texts and exercises, which can be used to develop general and professional competencies in the profession01/21/08(130404.01) Operator in open-pit mining:

E XCAVATORS.
Excavators are now recognized as an essential part of the mining’s equipment. It would not be a good practice to create single-purpose machines for each of the various classes of earth-moving work.
The best economy will be obviously achieved when an all-purpose unit is made to carry out each class of work. Our plants for excavating machinery produce revolving shovels with attachements, which make it possible to use them for carrying out each class of work.
The changeable attachments of the universal excavator are known under the following names: shovel, dragline, grab or clamshell, backhoe, crane.
The shovel equipment is used in general excavation, stripping, levelling and clearing jobs where the level of the machine is below the level of the ground to be dug.
Dragline equipment consists of a bucket suspended by a rope from a long jib of lattice-steel construction. The action of the machine is to throw the bucket away and outwards, it then being drawn back towards the machine by another rope excavating the material as it does so.
Grabs.
Grabs consist of two half-buckets hinged together at the top. The grab is suspended from a steel-latticed jib fitted to the machine. Grabs may be fitted with teeth according to the nature of the work they have to carry out. Their chief application is loading or unloading easily moved materials such as sand, gravel, mud silt, etc., and excavating materials such as gravel or sand below water, level.
Cranes.
Mechanical excavators may be adapted for use as cranes using a long jib of steel-lattice construction. Their application is that of an ordinary crane in handling, hoisting and lowering materials, the long jib being operated with lesser loads where long reach is involved.
Backhoes.
Backhoe equipment is in effect shovel equipment functioninginreverse, the bucket performing the excavation backwards towards the plant. This equipment is used for the excavation of trenches and is capable of doing so down to a depth of approximately 12 feet. They are suitable for use in excavating all normal grounds, but excessively wet or hard, such as running sand and rock.
Find facts in the text to illustrate the following( find V text facts , speaking O next ):
1.The creation of all-purpose units gives the best economy.
2.The application of the shovel equipment, grabs, cranes.
2. Say a few words about( say a few words ).
1. Excavators. 2. The shovel equipment. 3. Grabs. 4. Cranes. 5. Backhoes.
3. Answer the questions( answer the questions ).
What attachments has the universal excavator?
What does dragline equipment consist of?
May be mechanical excavators adapted for use as cranes?
Task 2.
According to research from UK recruitment agency CBSbutler, you could earn £54,000 in 2017. To do this, you had to work as an engineer in the oil and gas industry. It takes a lot of effort to see numbers like these in your bank account. One of them is to learn English and become a sought-after specialist in a foreign or Russian company.
Even if you have nothing to do with engineering, we recommend that you read the article. For example, the English names of screws and dowels will be useful to you if you assemble furniture according to instructions in English or buy exclusive materials on English-language sites.
Brief dictionary of technical terms
We tried to collect the terms that are most often found in the work of an engineer. Of course, we only covered the basic vocabulary. If you want to master English in a more narrow engineering field, you can do this on ours. Whether you are a design engineer or an electrical engineer, we will select the materials that will be useful specifically in your industry.
If you know basic terminology, scroll to the end of the article: we have collected 33 useful resources for you that will be useful for developing your listening and reading skills. Plus, our list of video blogs, podcasts, series, and courses will help make learning fun.

Today is programmer's day. On this occasion, there is a holiday in our office, balloons, fireworks (in fact, no: we work hard). But we couldn’t ignore such a day, so we prepared an article about technical English for IT specialists.
Why does a developer need English (this question made me laugh). The answer is obvious: English is needed to understand terminology, work with English-language interfaces, read technical documentation, study professional literature, conferences and webinars... And, of course, to be able to work abroad.
Developers already know a huge amount English words(just listen to ours: it’s as if they don’t speak Russian at all, but only “fix”, “debug”, “asap”). But using professional slang does not mean fully proficient in English. Therefore, we have collected resources in this article that will help you fully improve your English for work.

English dictionary for programmers: sources of vocabulary
The vocabulary for developers is extensive. Those whom the average person might call an “IT person” include a dozen different specializations: frontend developers, backend developers, testers, web designers, product designers, and others (but all of them must be able to “fix a computer”).
We have collected sources where you can find both basic and highly specialized vocabulary.

Textbooks are especially suitable for those who decide to learn the language on their own, as they offer a ready-made lesson program.

We work with other skills: listening, speaking practice
Full command of a foreign language includes 4 skills: reading (we named many sites for it), listening, writing and speaking (that is, speech). We will find additional resources for listening and speaking.
1. Listening: podcasts and videos
Some of the collections on Lingualeo that I mentioned above are collections with videos that will also help improve your listening skills. Now let's find some podcasts:
- Herding Code - Technology podcasts with Scott Allen, Kevin Dente, Scott Kuhn and John Galloway.
- Like any specialist, developers need not only basic English, but also highly specialized ones. This mainly concerns special vocabulary.
- Vocabulary can be found in professional dictionaries and materials in English. The second option is preferable: this way you will learn even the most difficult words more firmly.
- Don’t forget other skills: listening (listen to podcasts, watch videos and TV series) and speaking (communicate with English-speaking colleagues on special forums and on social networks).
Let's summarize: English for web designers and IT specialists
Well, once again we congratulate those involved on the holiday! Now let's go. 🙂
