Review of floor-mounted clothes hangers: types and their descriptions. Clothes hanger on wheels: a good solution in interior design. What is a clothes hanger called?

You need to store clothes in such a way that they do not lose their attractiveness, and it is always easy to find the right outfit. But what will it be - a few nails driven into the wall, or a stylish and elegant floor hanger? A floor clothes hanger can become not only a functional item, but also a significant element of the interior, adding notes of a certain style and charm to it.

Pros and cons of floor hangers

The main disadvantage of the floor structure is its questionable stability, especially for inexpensive products. But if you think in advance about what kind of things the future hanger will be used for, you can choose a high-quality, fairly stable and safe model.

Advantages of floor hangers:

  • Mobility. This part can be easily moved to another location. If you have made a rearrangement, repair, added new element interior to the room or vice versa - we freed up space from unnecessary things, perhaps now the hanger will look more harmonious in another place.
  • No installation work. When installing a wall hanger, it often requires holes in the wall, which damage the decorative covering. When dismantling, the holes will be visible and the wall fragment will have to be repaired. When you no longer need the floor clothes holder, simply hide it in utility room in a matter of minutes.
  • Wide range of models. You can choose a floor hanger to suit any interior style, for any type of clothing, accessories and even shoes. They differ in size, material of manufacture, and external design.

Wooden floor clothes hanger

A wooden hanger is the most popular option. The wood is strong and durable, therefore, such a hanger will be stable and reliable. On sale there are varnished and painted products, carved models, as well as the most laconic ones, which, by the way, you can make yourself. A wooden stand for clothes will be appropriate in many styles - from traditional classics to fashionable loft. Such a hanger will decorate a room in a country style, as well as a room in a modern eco-style.

Metal floor clothes hanger

This hanger has an impressive weight, so there is no doubt about its stability. Most often, metal hangers are made of chromed aluminum, which can be painted in a variety of colors. Separately, it is worth mentioning forged floor hangers. These are products that are not inferior in practical qualities to ordinary metal ones, but have enhanced aesthetic properties. A forged hanger is a unique and elegant decoration for your hallway or verandas.

Floor-standing clothes hanger IKEA

Holders made from a variety of materials can be found at IKEA. An IKEA hanger can also be a combination of materials. For example, plastic hangers are unstable due to their low weight, so manufacturers use a hybrid of plastic and metal. Also, metal and wooden hangers are equipped with rubber or plastic tips on hooks (so as not to spoil clothes) and legs (to protect the floor covering).

It is important not only how the clothes fit on you, but also where they hang waiting for you. Hangers can be wall, floor or those called by the strange word trempel. But first things first.

Types of hangers

In institutions and office premises, simple wall hangers made of plastic or metal are installed - strips with several hooks. In the hallway of a residential apartment, more complex designs will look better - with hooks and shelves for scarves and hats, with a shoe stand and a mirror, which will be convenient to look at before going outside.

A floor hanger is a stand with a stable base and hooks for outerwear, hats, bags or accessories. There are also floor hangers with a stand for shoes and umbrellas.

A design in which several racks are united by a hanger bar is called a hanger-rack or hanger-rack. Such designs are equipped with wheels for ease of movement and are complemented with shoe stands or cabinets for small items. Some models are equipped with curtains or a cover to protect clothes from dust. Two or three of these hangers, and you can create an impromptu wardrobe, organize costumes for the participants in the performance, or host large number guests.

Personal suit hanger, on the contrary, is needed to store one single suit. Hangers for jackets and shirts, as well as a crossbar for trousers or skirts are mounted on it. Often, suit hangers are complemented by a stand for a pair of boots or shoes and special holders for important little things: cufflinks, jewelry, watches.

Hangers

However, most often we do not need a stationary structure, but ordinary hangers (trempel). Universal triangular hangers with a crossbar are the most durable. For heavy outerwear, it is worth choosing just such models made of wood or metal. And for clothes made from thin, delicate fabrics, soft hangers upholstered in fabric with foam rubber are suitable. More advanced, anatomical models of hangers have wide supports that are rounded at both ends.

There are special hangers with several crossbars for trousers and skirts. And in order for the trousers to retain their appearance longer, they are hung on hangers with clothespins - this way, folds do not form on them. For skirts, hangers with recesses for skirt loops are produced. Underwear and swimsuits can be placed on lightweight plastic hangers with numerous hooks and holders. Special hangers are made even for scarves, scarves, belts and ties - they have the shape of a circle or triangle.

When buying hangers, it is important to choose a hanger that matches the size of your clothing as closely as possible, or a little smaller for items made of dense materials. On a hanger that is too large, clothes will stretch, but on a small hanger, the shoulders will sag and the item will lose its shape.

Hangers up to 35 cm wide are intended for children's clothing. Models with sizes 35 – 41 cm - for teenagers. For standard sizes men's and women's clothing Hangers with a width of 42 - 47 cm are used, the largest reach 55 cm.

Materials

Hangers are made of wood, plastic or metal, but designs that use different materials are also common. Wooden models look solid and bring warmth to the interior, metal products are durable and strict, and plastic is light and resistant to deformation.

Features of choice

Despite all the differences, the basic requirements for the quality of any hanger are the same. Please ensure that the surfaces of the load-bearing parts of the hanger or trempel are smooth - for this purpose, the wood is sanded and varnished, casting defects are removed from metal and plastic surfaces and polished. Sharp edges and edges are smoothed or covered with decorative details.

Regardless of the design, the hanger should be easy to use, and the items of clothing placed on it should not cling to anything: it’s a shame to get a hook or loop on a beautiful jumper or blouse due to a poor-quality hanger. A plus will be the presence of a special anti-slip coating or silicone inserts on the working surfaces of the hanger.

A floor hanger for clothes is a compact alternative to a bulky closet, allowing you to place a maximum of things in a minimum of space. Variety of shapes, designs and design solutions allows you to use floor hangers as a practical addition to the interior of any style, and the availability of specialized products expands the scope of their application.

Species and types

Based on its purpose and design features, a floor-mounted clothing storage system can be one of three types:

  • hangers in the hallway,
  • wardrobe hangers,
  • suit hangers.

Floor hanger for clothes in the hallway It is mainly a high stand with hooks for outerwear or hats located in the upper part. A small round base in the form of a solid support or several legs makes the structure quite stable, and the coat hooks located in a circle add spaciousness to the hanger.

Some models are equipped with an additional row of smaller hooks, highlighting different levels for placing clothes and hats. An umbrella stand or a solid narrow shelf placed in the lower third of the hanger adds practicality and functionality to the furniture.

Floor hanger for clothes, dressing room- This is more substantial furniture in size, designed for storing clothes on hangers. The design of such hangers necessarily includes a rod located high enough to place clothes on the hangers. Many models look like a classic wardrobe rack with two supporting legs and a crossbar in the middle, and to increase functionality, the hangers are equipped with additional movable rods and crossbars.

Suit hanger– This is a separate device for storing business clothes. Its design necessarily includes: hangers located in the upper part, a barbell or crossbar for trousers, and a separate tier for ties. Such hangers are quite compact, can have a movable or stationary mirror integrated into the system, and additional shelves for small items.

Wardrobe and suit hangers can be stationary or mobile, equipped with small wheels, which allows you to easily move these clothing storage systems throughout the room.

Materials

A floor hanger for clothes can be made of a single material, mainly wood or metal, or it can be a design made from a combination of parts of different origins and textures. Not only natural materials are used in the decoration of hangers, including different varieties wood and animal horns, but also chromed and painted metal, wood boards or plastic.

Hangers in the interior

For rooms decorated in a minimalist or high-tech style, hangers of avant-garde or classic shapes made with shiny metal parts are perfect. Hangers with an original design of a base having curved shapes, hangers with a non-standard arrangement of hooks for clothes, reminiscent of stylized trees made of metal or abstract, curved designs on a thin holder leg, look unusual.

Such models look great in both single-color and two-color versions - with different shades base and top of the structure. If for high-tech the most advantageous option would be a floor clothes hanger made of chromed metal, then for minimalism models of an entirely wooden structure, with clear and thin lines and a laconic, round or narrow rectangular base, are also suitable. In a room with this style, the tone of the hanger should be in harmony with the rest of the furnishings.

In a classic interior or in rooms in a retro or country style, they will look most appropriate wooden models natural colors, tinted or varnished, with massive holders and traditional shapes. Brown, beige or sand tones are the best choice for hangers in this style, and the decor can be either almost invisible or more expressive, including carved trim.

Wrought iron hangers are an ideal addition to the hallway classic style, and thanks to their massiveness and expressive design, they can become the dominant piece of furniture, setting the mood in the entire room.

IN modern interior In the eclectic style, the most non-standard combinations are permissible, so a floor hanger for clothes can be of the most unexpected design, of any color and finishing style. Hangers resembling stylized figures, multi-level systems with movable rods, suit hangers in the retro style of the 60s, white, black or combined models - there are no rules or restrictions in such an interior. Hangers not only in the usual beige-brown colors would be appropriate here, but also models in bright and rich colors: red, pink, orange, decorated with metal, plastic or combined inserts.

We are so accustomed to some of the things that surround us, we use them every day and often don’t even think about their origin. While their story may turn out to be very interesting. Take, for example, an accessory such as hangers. Millions of people use them every day, hanging jackets, coats, blazers, shirts, blouses, and dresses. Thanks to these simple devices, clothes do not wrinkle and are better preserved.

Today it is even difficult to imagine what we would do without them. After all, using the backs of chairs or something else to store clothes is not very convenient. Meanwhile, until approximately the end of the 17th - beginning of the 18th centuries, this was the case. Clothes were stored in chests or, at best, in vertical drawers. Naturally, in this state it crumpled and did not look the best. Moreover, if the wealthier sections of society could have several such boxes, then the poor, especially in rural areas, have one. And it was used not only as a linen or wardrobe. Sometimes other things were stored in it, even food supplies.

The first in history supposedly appeared in France. Mentions of them date back to the 16th century. These were quite large and uncomfortable devices, more like modern mannequins. They were made from wood and used mainly by the aristocracy, military and priests. The fact is that clothes at that time were bulky and bulky, so they often found it difficult to fit into a chest. Caring for her was difficult, troublesome, and took a lot of time. Therefore, in the current situation, this invention was received very favorably and quickly spread. Later, already at the end of the 17th century, lightweight versions were invented, more similar to modern ones. They consisted of a wooden crossbar with a hook and a stand.

The production of hangers was carried out by small woodworking workshops and factories producing metal wire and rods. And the products were sold by such well-known stores from the “1000 little things” series as “Pauvre Diable (Poor Devil)” and “Belle Fermiere (Beautiful Farmer)”.

Subsequently, French fashion migrated to other European countries, where their convenience and practicality were appreciated. Soon, English lords, Austrian magnates, Spanish grandees and other high-born gentlemen and ladies took off their outfits every evening with the help of servants and hung them on these devices. Carefully polished wood of expensive species or engraved metal hangers could often be found in the wardrobe of the aristocracy. By the way, in French the word “hanger” sounded like “cintre”. This name appeared thanks to an architectural term that was used to describe semicircular buildings. The word came into general use thanks to a fashion magazine, where it was used to refer to this device, which provides simple and easy way hang clothes.

Over time, the shape of hangers has changed, adapting to current fashion. Models have appeared designed for specific items of clothing - blouses, shirts, skirts, suits, coats, and so on. There were even hangers specifically for ladies' corsets. At the same time appearance hangers have also changed - to this day, in some museums telling about the life of the past, there are still options with expanding shoulders for heavy clothes, straight or curved, with fasteners for securing trousers, hangers with a special adjusting screw, by adjusting which, it was possible to adjust the shoulders to the size clothes.

In 1869, the American O. A. Norton received a patent for the invention of a coat hook. So he would have remained the only person in history who had all the rights, if not for chance. In 1903, in America, workers at one of the wire factories began to be indignant at the fact that there were not enough hangers in everyone’s wardrobe. It almost came to a strike. One day, a certain Albert Parkhouse, who works at the same enterprise, came to work and once again discovered that all the hooks were occupied and he simply had nowhere to hang his jacket. Having spat on the factory manual, Albert took a piece of wire, twisted it into two oblong ovals, and built a hook in the middle. After which, he calmly hung the jacket on “this” and hung the structure on the nearest hook. The problem has been resolved. At the same time, a new invention was made. Prahaus's idea made it possible to significantly reduce the cost and make hangers more accessible to the mass consumer.

In 1932, cardboard was added to the wire structure so that if wet clothes were hung, the hanger would not sag. And in 1935, the hanger was improved by adding a lower bar, which made it possible to also place trousers on it.

An interesting feature - in the southern regions Russian Empire the hanger was often called a "trempel". According to legend, the name came from a certain visiting foreigner - either a German or a Frenchman - named Trempel. Allegedly, in the 19th century he opened a factory in Kharkov own name and a store selling ready-made clothing. And each of his products hung on a hanger, along with which they were sold. And on the hanger there was a label with the name of the manufacturing company “Trempel”. Whether this is true or not is not known for certain, but it is a fact that in some regions of Russia, as well as in Sloboda Ukraine, clothes hangers are still called “trempel”.

There are several traditional designs of hangers: regular hangers, with a bottom crossbar, with clothespins, universal ones with additional hooks for individual species clothes. They are mostly made of plastic, however, there are also traditional wooden and wire options.

But sometimes this item can become a real work of design art. For example, German creatives came up with a whole series of stylized thematic silhouettes of city landscapes. It's easy to guess here major cities world, such as London, Paris, New York, as well as Berlin, Munich, Hamburg and others.

Or this set of hangers, made in the shape of airplanes. Their creator was inspired by the silhouette of the legendary C-47 bomber, and embodied it in this solution. By the way, the hangers are made of aluminum, just like airplane fuselages.

If you are always late, hangers in the shape of a clock will remind you of the transience of time.

And if you are still used to leaving clothes on a chair, then you will like the fantasies from Spanish designers - hangers, similar backs of chairs and armchairs.

Well, these are not just hangers, but a whole system that people of creative professions will certainly appreciate. The design consists of multi-colored pencils secured in special hooks. It is enough to hang a jacket on one of the pencils, and the weight of the clothing will set this mechanism in motion, and colored patterns will appear on the wall. The authors of the invention claim that in this way you can fight everyday boredom and routine lifestyle, making it brighter.

It can be made even brighter if you use this invention. Illuminated hangers also serve as lighting fixtures and operate on batteries or mains power. Stylish and practical.

Well, this option is more like collars. Made from thin sheets of maple wood, these original hangers, although they look fragile, are nevertheless quite durable.

And, finally, a series of hanger stands in the shape of telegraph poles. Apparently, to make the association more credible, the designers even depicted silhouettes of crows. And not only - according to their plan, the hanging shoes also mean something.

Of course, most of us still prefer to use more conventional clothes hangers. But sometimes you still want something unusual. In any case, the choice is yours.
