The fashion industry is increasingly turning its face to women of normal build, far from model standards. In 2017, France passed a law banning working with girls who are too thin.

This ban is associated with one of the biggest problems of girls in the modeling business - rejection of their own body image, which leads to eating disorders, bulimia and anorexia. At the same time, models with curvaceous figures - the so-called plus size - are conquering the catwalks and covers of glossy magazines.

Tess Holiday

Tess Holiday was born in 1985. With a height of 160 cm, she weighs 155 kilograms. The girl claims that volumes do not cause her problems and are rather her advantage. Holiday leads healthy image life and spends a lot of time in the gym. In 2011, Tess was noticed by the producers of a reality show and she became popular. Now she is considered the most complete model in the world.

Ashley Graham

Ashley Graham was born in 1987. She wears size 58 clothes with a height of 175 cm. Graham got into the modeling business by chance as a teenager - at the age of 12 she was noticed by one of the specialists who search and select models. Since then, despite the non-standard parameters, she has conquered more than one catwalk and even launched her own lingerie collection.

Lizzie Miller

Model Lizzie Miller, with a height of 180 cm, weighs about 80 kg. It is known that she began working as a model when she was an “ordinary” thin girl, of which there are hundreds on the catwalks. But one day she gained weight and decided that she liked herself better at that weight and felt better. Lizzie became famous throughout the world when she posed nude for American Vogue.

Anastasia Kvitko

American model of Russian origin Anastasia Kvitko claims the laurels of “the second Kim Kardashian”. She regularly posts backstage photos on her Instagram page and highlights her voluminous breasts and hips. Anastasia Kvitko was born in 1994, she hides her weight, but it is known that with a height of 175 cm, her hips are 105 cm.

Crystal Renn

Crystal Renn was born in 1985 and has come a long way in the modeling business from a skinny girl to a plus-size model. She had to fight anorexia nervosa, almost die, and then gain weight and conquer the pages of fashion magazines with new volumes. In 2009, Crystal wrote the book “Hungry” about the problems of girls with eating disorders in the modeling business.

Velvet D'Amour

Velvet dreamed of becoming a model all her life, but at castings she was advised to forget about it - by model standards, the girl was considered too plump - despite the fact that at 21 she weighed only 53 kilograms. Everything changed when Velvet D'Amour turned 35 - she was noticed and invited to the show of the scandalous fashion designer John Galliano.

Velvet D'Amour became John Galliano's muse

Sophie Dahl

Sophie Dahl is a model from England. In addition, she is trying herself in the writing field. It became one of the first models in the world with “non-standard” parameters. A plump schoolgirl was noticed on the street by a scout from one of the modeling agencies and offered a contract. In 2017, Sophie Dahl turned 40 years old, but she continues to act and participate in shows.

Kate Upton

Kate Upton was born in 1992 in Michigan. She has a typical "Midwestern" appearance - tall, strong blonde with blue eyes. She succeeded in the modeling business primarily due to her curvaceous (compared to ordinary model) parameters - with a height of 187 cm, her hips are 85 cm. Of course, her size cannot be called a real plus size, but the editors of znayvsyo.rf will leave this to conscience of the fashion industry.

Mia Tyler

Mia Tyler is the sister of Liv Tyler and the daughter of Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler. Like her sister, she has a thick physique, but does not torment herself with diets, but is building a career as a plus size model. In her youth, however, she also did not escape the struggle with anorexia and a painful desire to lose weight, but in the end she managed to cope.

Tara Lynn

Tara Lynn is one of the plus size models who actively promotes body positivity, a healthy attitude towards your body and the fight against imposed beauty standards. She has numerous contracts with leading modeling agencies. With a height of 170 cm, the model weighs 80 kg. And Tara Lynn was born in 1982.

Without a doubt, the standards of beauty that the fashion industry and consumer society impose on women (and after them, men) are infinitely far from reality, especially against the backdrop of the problem of mass obesity in developed and developing countries. The emergence of so-called “cheap” calories has led to the fact that the world is not faced with the problem of hunger, but with the opposite situation. The editors of the site invite you to read about the craziest diets of different eras and how people try to get rid of excess weight.

We must admit: development modern technologies played a cruel joke on the fashion industry and the media. Back at the beginning of the century, women were encouraged to strive for the image of impeccably beautiful, but still living models, and a decade later the doll became the ideal of beauty: retouchers got so busy creating the ideal image that there was simply no real, living woman left behind it. Skin smoothed to the appearance of plastic, figures that argue with the laws of anatomy, and porcelain faces completely devoid of facial expressions - this is the new ideal of beauty. This time - unattainable. Neither natural abilities, nor sports, nor healthy eating, nor procedures - nothing else could help a woman get closer to the glossy ideal, it is simply unattainable. The nuts were tightened too tightly, and the thread predictably broke: any action gives rise to a reaction, and the gloss gave birth to body positivity - an idea that returns women their real, living body, with all its shortcomings. We are simply tired of chronic stress caused by the endless race for unattainable standards imposed on us, and the standards, meanwhile, have gone so far from real life that began to seem caricatured. But if we did, we would actually stop endlessly consuming all those products that sell us the ideal plastic image, and the industry could not allow this. And then plus-size models appeared.

Give us back our body!

The very idea of models of “non-standard” sizes appearing in gloss and on catwalks was completely revolutionary, but at the same time frighteningly logical: why on earth are we being offered to look at clothes of the size that the majority of the female population of the planet last wore in puberty, at about thirteen years old? ? This simply defies common sense! This very common sense, supported by the ideas of feminism and body positivity, forced the industry to offer us new standard: a woman who wears a clothing size other than XS, but at the same time she is beautiful, and most importantly, she is happy with herself and does not want to change anything about herself, does not want to break herself for the sake of fashion. We said “Give us back our bodies!”, and plus-size models did it. “I won’t let others dictate how my body should look, and I wouldn’t advise you to either,” says Ashley Graham, one of the world’s most successful models, who appears in commercials without retouching. Young Barbie Ferreira also films without Photoshop and asks her Instagram followers to remember that any body should be treated with love and respect. Body positivity icon Tess Holliday never tires of reminding society that a person with overweight not necessarily ugly, unhappy or sick. But even she is not honest with her audience. All this is another deception.

Another unattainable ideal

The beauty of plus-size models has nothing to do with real life, nor do the slogans they utter. They tell us “Every woman is beautiful,” but at the same time they again impose unattainable ideals: these are still the same model parameters, just now in different sizes, and everything else remains the same. Plus-size models always have thin, perfectly sculpted faces. Of course, there is a certain percentage of women who have almost no fat deposits on their faces, but this percentage is absolutely negligible. Models simply remove the so-called Bisha fat pads (which results in sunken cheeks), undergo liposuction of the chin (due to which the double chin instantly disappears), and then polish the result using makeup and Photoshop. Voila - we see an ideal face that an ordinary woman does not and will not have. Each model is an X-shaped woman - she has full breasts, a thin and long waist, a flat stomach, steep hips, long legs and a round butt. Perfect figure! There are no models with an O-type figure, when fat is mainly deposited on the waist and abdomen. There are no models with a T-type figure - with large shoulders and narrow hips. Regular models - yes, they exist, but plus-size - never: we are told that a body with a large amount of fatty tissue can only be attractive if it fits a strict standard: girl-X, and nothing else!

Photo shoots supposedly without Photoshop, in which we can see cellulite on the hips and folds on the model’s waist, are another deception: Retouching is, of course, present in these photographs - for some reason, the models always have a perfectly even skin tone, not a single hair stands out from the hairstyles, and folds of skin are present only at the waist - the rest of the body is perfectly smooth, and even facial wrinkles are absent. As a result, we get almost the same perfect picture, with a couple of “flaws” that only emphasize the perfection of everything else. What does this lead to?

Everyone is beautiful except you

This leads us to the same result: no plus-size woman looks at models and feels beautiful. On the contrary, the feeling of self-inferiority imposed on her is intensifying: before, she understood that she could not achieve the model ideal simply because nature gave her a completely different type of body, and, in addition, she understood that beautiful pictures from magazines exist only in magazines and have nothing to do with real life. What does she see now? She sees incredibly, inhumanly beautiful women large size. She is also plus size, but it is impossible to reach the beauty standards of plus-size models! She doesn't want to wear the clothes they advertise because the dress fits differently on an O figure than on an X figure: she looks at herself in the mirror and feels ugly. What fits perfectly on models with flat stomachs and steep hips, on her figure, stretches in one place and sags in folds in another. She takes a selfie and sees a double chin and plump cheeks, and on the Instagrams of plus-size models she is shown chiseled faces with high cheekbones (shot, naturally, from a favorable angle). She feels that now all the women in the world are beautiful - except for her: even with a lot of weight, you can be a dazzling beauty, but, unfortunately, it is not given to her. What does it mean?

This means that nothing has changed: she will again run for an unattainable ideal, simultaneously leaving her money in the pockets of the industry. The world has shaken itself up and returned to its previous tracks: we are again told that we are all terribly ugly and we urgently need to do something about it. Only now it’s served with the “Self-Love” sauce. No, no, don’t under any circumstances lose weight, darling, you’re beautiful just the way you are! Well, almost beautiful. All that remains is to polish you up from head to toe, and, perhaps, remove belly fat, enlarge your chest and butt, tighten your muscles, smooth your skin, raise your cheekbones, tighten your cheeks, emphasize your lips... Well, you get the idea. Forward to beauty, baby!

All bodies are beautiful, but some are more beautiful

The most unpleasant thing about all this is that plus-size models themselves constantly utter slogans in the spirit of body positivity - love yourself for who you are; any body is beautiful; do not allow anyone to drive you into the framework of invented beauty; - but at the same time they themselves are within the invented framework. The models of the past era were at least honest: they directly said that their bodies were the result of exhausting work on themselves and strict restrictions, and not everyone could achieve this. The world is unfair, nothing can be done. But the modern world, filled with the ideas of feminism, no longer wants to hear this about itself: we are tired of suffering and feeling inferior, we want to truly love ourselves. And they immediately slipped us the same dish, but with a different sauce, but now this is a particularly cynical deception: an ideally beautiful woman (that is, who fits perfectly into the new standards of beauty) tells us that she overcame the pressure of standards and fell in love with her real self. What are you saying! Wow, what heroism is it to fall in love with a new ideal that billions of women will never be able to achieve. Bravo!

What they want to convey to us with the help of plus-size models is the same deception. It’s just that they used to tell us straight up, “Models are beautiful, but you are not, do something with yourself!”, and now they say, “Even plus-size women can be beautiful, but by the way, you’re ugly, do something with yourself!” " Previously there was one standard of beauty, now there are two - that’s the whole difference. The slogan “Love yourself” still means “do what you want, but fit into the standard!” Naturally, all this has nothing to do with truly accepting yourself, your body, your beauty. And this is important to understand at the moment when you compare yourself with the ideal plus-size young lady and feel that you are not beautiful enough. A new glossy bubble has simply been inflated in front of you, which may burst just like the previous one, and this is, perhaps, only a matter of time.

Trends in the fashion industry have changed a lot over the past few years. If previously grunge and thinness bordering on anorexia were in fashion, now curvy models are again held in high esteem, which is good news. Having survived years of body shaming, plus-size models are finally taking to the catwalk, destroying all kinds of stereotypes. Let us remind you that a model in the plus-size category is a fashion model with a height of 170-180 cm and clothing size 48-54. Today, the most famous plus-size model in the world is Ashley Graham. The demand for models with plus-size body parameters is growing with each new season. The appearance of curvy women on the catwalk is always supported by ordinary customers of branded clothing. The popularity of fashion models non-standard forms increases not only in the modeling business, but also in commercials.

The emergence of the term plus size

Democratic and freedom-loving Americans contributed to the emergence of the term “plus size”. Residents were so accustomed to going to court for any reason that any fashion designer could not advertise for an overweight woman to work with. Girls would easily consider such a name humiliating. To avoid misunderstandings, a special term plus size was introduced, which translated means “one size larger,” or literally “plus size.”

Subsequently, this form of address was formalized after the approval of the American clothing size grid. The National Institute of Standards and Technology has developed a sizing chart that takes into account both standard and more unusual body measurements. Following consumer demand, fashion designers in the late 70s of the 20th century released fashion models with shapes unusual for the fashion world on the catwalks.

Category "plus": parameters

To become a model, you don't have to have perfect shape. Plus size is highly valued by many brands, but there are certain requirements for girls.

In society, the truth told by Kate Moss that there is nothing more delicious than being thin has long been outdated. Unhealthy thinness is being replaced by healthy bodies, but for professional work it is important to have a well-groomed appearance and elastic skin.

The classic parameters of a “plus size” model start from 96-76-106 cm. Height is also important, it is advisable to be taller than 175 cm. The standard clothing size range for such women is 48 and 50 (Russian).

Luxurious Russian models

The most famous and successful Russian plus size model is Ekaterina Zharova. Despite the fact that she wears size 52 and has a hip circumference of 112 cm, by American standards she is slightly short of the plus standard.

Since childhood, Ekaterina has not been skinny, but she always dreamed of being on the podium. Her mantra became the words from the film of the same name, “the most charming and attractive,” which she often watched with her mother.

E. Zharova is not only successful as a fashion model, but also has a wonderful family. To keep her skin toned, she regularly plays sports and enjoys yoga. Her motto says that a person’s happiness does not depend on weight, and one must live now, regardless of what parameters are available at the moment.

St. Petersburg model Yulia Lavrova is in great demand at fashion shows. She was always plus size, and all attempts to lose weight were without much success. Now the girl weighs 86 kg, which is considered ideal for working in the fashion world in this sector, but previously her weight exceeded 100 kg.

To maintain her body shape and flexibility, the model goes to the gym twice a week and attends swimming classes, but she no longer sets goals to lose weight. She is quite happy with the current one appearance, and success in your career and fame make you feel happy.

Many connoisseurs of true Russian beauty compare Yulia with Kim Kardashian, but Lavrova herself does not recognize any standards and does not strive to be like anyone. Lavrova got into the crazy world of fashion shows with the help of friends. After several home shoots, her photos were seen by agency employees who were looking for new images.

Now the girl has contracts with famous brands that specialize in clothing for fat girls: Natura, Infinity. In my personal life everything is also smooth, there is loving husband and son. Julia proves with her life that plus-size girls are in demand not only among men, but also in the fashion business.

World-class Plus Size

Tara Lynn is one of the bright curvy models. With a height of 170 cm, she has majestic parameters of 110-86-120 cm. At first, the girl tried herself as an actress, but since 2010 such famous modeling agencies as ELLE and Vogue have been working with her.

At first, the girl, like many, was very worried about her body. But then she realized that she did not need to chase illusory standards, and her forms excite many. Tara came to the world of fashion quite late by the standards of world catwalks; she was already 28 years old when she decided to show her plus-size size without Photoshop. The success has so stunned even the model herself that now she is completely relaxed and proud that she does not have to torture her body with exhausting diets and back-breaking workouts.

The largest model in the world

One of the most controversial plus size models is Tess Holliday. Today she is considered the biggest girl in the field of fashion. Moreover, photographers and designers are not stopped even by the young lady’s height of 165 cm. Holliday’s measurements are 124-124-132 cm, and Vogue, a well-known company in the fashion world, signed a contract with her.

The path to a dazzling career was not easy enough. Like many plump young ladies, Tess constantly endured ridicule from her peers. And when she said that she was dreaming of catwalks and filming, they simply laughed at her. However, the girl herself was never embarrassed by her own appearance; she was completely liberated in this regard. Therefore, while some were trying to lose weight and gain confidence, Holliday, without any embarrassment, began to appear half-naked.

Well-known brands working with the Plus Size category

Today, many women have non-standard sizes and are quite curvy. Therefore, designers strive to meet existing demand and produce clothing lines in appropriate sizes.

Plus size clothing is produced by many famous fashion houses. The most popular of them:

  • French company Tailissime;
  • German brand Mia Moda;
  • American brand Igigi.

The collections created by the designers take into account all the features of a curvy figure and satisfy the needs of women with voluminous figures. Therefore, customers have a real opportunity to choose a beautiful thing, and not be content with robes with shapeless silhouettes.

For many overweight women shopping turns into a dull task that ends with buying the first thing you come across. To make a young lady feel beautiful in her body, plus-size models are advertised by fashion brands that work in this category.

Is high fashion only for thin and flat models? Forget it! It's time to give way to real women with pronounced shapes: waist, hips and breasts.

Plus size models are very different from other fashion models. Plus-Size models are girls with a non-standard appearance, with pronounced shapes such as the waist, hips and breasts. Plus-size models are not shy and love their bodies. Anorexia in fashion has become too tiresome that plus-size models have become the new heroes of fashion.

What size is the plus size model? Model plus size (Plus-Size) is a girl with a height of 170 to 180 centimeters who wears clothing sizes 48-54.

Plus size models

Katya plays sports twice a week and enjoys yoga. Katya is married, in demand as a plus-size model and works as a TV presenter. Happiness does not depend on weight, says Katya. You need to live here and now, and not put it off for later.

Russian plus-size model Yulia Lavrova is one of the most sought after in St. Petersburg. Yulia's weight is 86 kg, and before, according to the model, she weighed over 100 kg.
